One the top-most global institutions, Harvard Business School (HBS), has published it’s detailed case study on CSRL Super 30, a socio- economic program supported by various Oil & Gas PSUs as part of their CSR efforts. This will be used as a part of regular curriculum of not only HBS but of other leading Management Institutions of the world as well.
At CSRL Super 30, academically gifted but financially challenged students, including children of manual labour and farmers, are provided with one year of fully-sponsored residential coaching to compete for admissions in prestigious engineering colleges like IITs and NITs. Over the last several years, through a pan India approach, this program has helped about 3300 students of different states including Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh. HBS case has highlighted this scale and impact which is achieved by few CSR projects. The project is executed by the NGO, Centre for Social Responsibility & Leadership ( CSRL).
The program was adopted as a CSR project for the first time in 2009 by GAIL (India) Limited which opened a centre for 30 students in Kanpur. As 7 students of that first batch successfully qualified IIT entrance, the intake was increased to 100 students in 2011. It recently launched two centres in Uttarakhand.
Oil India Limited opened its first Super30 centre in Guawahati in 2010. It had been expanding the program since then and presently fund five centres in North East and one in Jodhpur. It also runs a centre for NEET preparation in Jorhat, Assam.
Petronet LNG made a big commitment in 2015 by embracing the cause of a CSRL Super 30 in Kashmir which gets operational and logistics support from Indian Army. Since then, more than 18 students from Kashmir centre have joined IITs and more than 50 have joined NITs. HBS case has prominently covered the success story of Irtiqa and Zoaya, both of whom are from Kashmir and alumni of Kashmir Super 30 and who presently study at NIT Srinagar and IIT Roorkee respectively.
Indraprastha Gas, OMC, RailTel and ConCor support a centre each at Delhi, Bhubaneswar, Dehradun and Varanasi respectively. NTPC sponsors a girls-only centre at Varanasi whereas Indian Oil generously sponsors four girls only centres under its Indian Oil Vidushi program. ONGC supports a center a centre at Kashmir for preparation of NEET and one at Sivsagar for JEE preparation. MGL and RCF sponsor the Thane centre.
CSRL Super30 has based itself on the model of Super-30 Patna co-found by IPS [Retd.] Abhayanand who split ways with Anand Kumar in 2008.
