Tripartite partners (Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Populaion, Council of Federation of Trade Unions, Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan) held a meeting with the mission of the International Labour Organization (ILO) led by special advisor of the Director-General of the ILO Kari Tapiola.
The Uzbek side was represented by the Minister of labour and social protection of population Aziz Abdukhakimov, chairperson of the Council of Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva, deputy chairperson of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan A. Ikromov and head of the state legal inspection of labour B. Shahriyorov.
At the meeting, the sides considered preliminary results of the study of employment practice at cotton picking season and organization of the roundtable on this issue in August 2015, the press service of the Minister of labour and social protection of population said.
It was noted that work on monitoring of child labour in cotton sector was organized in high level in 2013-2014 and it allowed international experts to state that there is no child labour at cotton field in Uzbekistan.
It was noted that it is planned to hold monitoring of child and forced labour during cotton picking season of 2015 with participation of international observers.
In the end of August, it is planned to hold training for participants of monitoring, review questionnaires, form regional groups, etc.
ILO expert on statistics Michaëlle de Cock said that quality study of employment practice at cotton picking season was completed. She said that the study was conducted in line with the approved schedule at active support of the Uzbek side. The preliminary results of the study were studied by specialists.
At the end of the meeting, the ILO specialists underlined construction cooperation of the tripartite partners with the ILO within the Deserved Labour Country Programme.
