People of Uzbekistan are deeply involved in the electoral process in the country

Tashkent, Feb 22 Center for the Study of Public Opinion “Ijtimoiy Fikr” of Uzbekistan conducted a survey on the theme “Election of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan – 2015”.

The aim of the study was to identify public awareness about the upcoming election of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan held on a multiparty basis, in conditions of fair political competition, openness and transparency in accordance with the requirements of the national electoral legislation.

The survey covers all sectors of the population, different professions, ages, nationalities, citizens and villagers.

As shown by the results of the study, the vast majority of citizens (97.2%) are aware of the fact that on March 29 2015 in the country held presidential elections. The high level of public awareness is the result of improvements in the legal mechanisms of the national electoral legislation, modernized in accordance with the “Concept of further deepening democratic reforms and formation of civil society”, as well as the effectiveness of measures for the organization of the campaign undertaken by the Central Election Commission, district and precinct commissions.

According to the survey, 90.7% of the population of Uzbekistan are well informed that, in accordance with the national legislation of Uzbek President is elected for a term of five years.

Citizens of Uzbekistan are aware of changes and amendments to the national legislation of the country, according to which, the right to nominate their candidates have all existing political parties in the country – the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, the People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, the Democratic Party “Milly Tiklanish” and The Social Democratic Party “Adolat”.

According to the Uzbek people, the presidential candidate of Uzbekistan should possess such qualities as professionalism and knowledge of modern management skills, commitment to democratic principles, national and universal values, commitment and desire to take into account the interests and aspirations of different social groups, active citizenship.

The survey also revealed that for the vast majority of the inhabitants of the republic media is a key source of information on developments in the socio-economic and political life of the country during the election campaign.

In general, according to the study, the citizens (95.4%) are trying to follow the course of the election campaign of the President of Uzbekistan, and more than every second – the next regularly. On their own self-esteem vast majority of citizens in general positively assess their level of awareness of the upcoming elections. More than half the respondents believed that the national media is different in a prompt and timely provision of information concerning the characteristics of the organization and conduct of the forthcoming elections, the legal framework of the election campaign.

Results of the study show a steady positive dynamics of social-minded citizens, their willingness to actively participate in the upcoming March 29, 2015 elections in an atmosphere of peace and tranquility, ethnic and civil harmony and tolerance in society to strengthen friendship and mutual respect.
