The 27th International Homoeopathic Conference (IHCON) of Asian Homoeopathic Medical League (AHML) was organised by AHML Nepal Chapter from 20th – 21st April, 2019 in the capital city of Kathmandu. Over 250 delegates from countries like Bangladesh, India, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Russia and Ukraine etc. attended the event.
The chief guest for the 2 day conference was the former Prime Minister of Nepal Mr. Pushpa Kamal Dahal, popularly known as Prachanda and the Health Minister. He urged the Homoeopathic doctors of Nepal to work for the betterment of the nation by promoting Homoeopathy as it is a very safe and effective system of medicine.
Dr. Sanket Gupta and Kaartik Gupta of AKGsOVIHAMS Medical Centres presented a paper titled “Role of Integration of Homoeopathy and Psychology in the treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)”. They presented a case of a 49 year old male suffering with OCD who has been treated with an integration of Homoeopathic medicines and Psychotherapy.
Dr. Sanket Gupta, Homoeopathic consultant at AKGsOVIHAMS, emphasised on the role of homoeopathic medicines in treating psychological disorders. He highlighted the individualistic approach followed in Homoeopathy as it is based on the principle of “Treating the man in illness and not the illness in man”.
Kaartik Gupta, Clinical Psychologist at AKGsOVIHAMS, described in detail the process, approach and techniques that were used as part of psychotherapy in treating this case. Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based therapy for the treatment of OCD as he also shared the common personality traits and cognitive errors that make an individual vulnerable for OCD.
During the conference, Dr. Nikolay from Russia updated Prof. Dr. A. K. Gupta, Founder-Director AKGsOVIHAMS, about one of his cases from Moscow whom he had referred to Dr. Gupta as the patient was suffering from some neurological problem. Dr. Nikolay shared that the patient has shown remarkable improvements and even proposed to jointly present the case at the next International conference.
The conference was a great success as eminent Homoeopathic doctors from different parts of Asia shared their clinical experiences about the wonderful effects of Homoeopathy in treating both acute and chronic illnesses. Some of the papers presented included topics like role of Homoeopathy in treating PCOD, Psychosomatic problems, Thyroid problems, Evidence based Cases treated with Homoeopathy, Role of Yoga in holistic approach, Cancer, Fibroid Uterus, Homoeopathic Repertory and Chrystal therapy etc.
Later a new office bearer for AHML were elected . Dr. Girish Gupta was elected the President and Dr. Sandeep Kaila was elected as Secretary General and Dr. Anil Seth was declared as President of honour.
