Uzbek President Islam Karimov re- elected, get more than 90 % Votes

March 30, 2015 CEC Chairman Abdusalomov today announced that Islam Karimov got re-elected president of uzbekistan  in recently conducted elections in Uzbekistan. He was addressing press conference for domestic and foreign mass media of the preliminary results of the presidential elections.

Isalam Karimov gathered the votes of over 17.1 million voters, or 90.39 percent of the total number of voters, said uzbek Central Election Commission’s chairman at a briefing on March 30.

The voter lists included the names of a total of 20,798,052 citizens. Some 18,928,000 people, or 91.01 percent of the voters, took part in Uzbekistan’s presidential election, held on March 29

According to Abdusalmov the elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan was held openly in full compliance with the national electoral legislation and internationally accepted principles of international law. The voting was open fair and transparent, he said and were compliant with internationally accepted election practices.

CEC Chairman Abdusalomov thanked all the International observers represented by around 30 countries. There was also a large numbers of mass media persons who covered the elections extensively and had visited various regions in Uzbekistan.

The vote was attended by 18 million 942 thousand citizens, which is 91,08% of the total number of voters included in the lists.

The CEC did not receive any information from the places on violations of the electoral law.

He also said that according to the preliminary results of the elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan 17 million 122 thousand 597 citizens, or 90.39% of the total number of voters casted their votes for Islam Karimov.

For Akmal Saidov voted 582 thousand 688 people, or 3.08% of voters, for Hotamjon Ketmonov – 552 thousand 309 people, or 2.92% of voters, for Narimon Umarov voted 389 thousand 24 people, or 2.05% of voters.

The briefing participants were informed that currently the CEC considering the protocols and other documents provided by district election commissions.

In accordance with the Law on the elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, all of them, if it will be necessary – also the papers of precinct election commissions will be again thoroughly checked up by the CEC. Only after that the CEC will decide on the outcome of the election.

In accordance with the national electoral legislation, the message about the results of elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan will be published by the CEC in print no later than 10 days after the election day, that is, until 8 April 2015.

4 major political parties participated in recently held presidential elections. Candidates extensively campaigned in all the regions of uzbekistan conveying there campaign programmes to the voter.

According Central Election Commission strict monitoring was done, so that equal opportunity was given to all the candidates so that they could convey to the voters.

Approximately around 900 hours of TV & Radio airtime was given to all the candidates. Around 10 pages were also given to all the candidates to campaign and convey the programmes to the voters.

CEC also informed that no privilege was given to any candidate during the campaign period.

OSCE/ODIHR mission will release a detailed report about the election campaign in Uzbekistan in about two months.

OSCE observation mission also highly appreciated the elections in Uzbekistan. Tana de Zulueta, the head of the observation mission from the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights said the presidential election was held at a sufficiently high level and that the voters were active.

Some 72 observers from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and the CIS executive committee were accredited as part of this mission.

About 300 observers from five international organizations – the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, Commonwealth of Independent States, Shanghai Cooperation Organization, World Association of electoral bodies and Organization of the Islamic Cooperation, as well as 43 states – participated in the elections.
