US envoy explores investment opportunities in northeast

Guwahati, Sep 2  US Ambassador to India Richard Verma on Tuesday discussed investment opportunities in the northeast with Assam Governor P.B. Acharya here.

Verma, along with US Consul General in Kolkata, Craig L. Hall and Consul for Political and Economic Affairs Gaurav Bansal, paid a courtesy call on Acharya, according to a Raj Bhavan statement.

“They held discussions over various issues including development of the northeastern region and the prospects of US investment in the infrastructure development of the region. The interactions lasted for about half an hour,” the statement said.

Talking to the media, Verma, who also visited the famous Kamakhya temple, said he has been visiting various places across India since he assumed charge earlier this year.

“This is my 24th visit (since assuming charge),” he told the media.

Verma became the US ambassador on January 16 this year, a few days ahead of President Barack Obama’s visit for the Republic Day celebrations.
