President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev addressed the Senate and the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis

As it is known, on December 22, 2019, elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and Local Councils of people’s deputies were held in Uzbekistan. This important political event was held on the basis of Electoral Code adopted for the first time in the history of Uzbekistan, under the motto “New Uzbekistan – New Elections”.

Today, on 24 January, the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev addressed the new Parliament.

The event took place at the International Congress Center in Tashkent. It was attended by members of the Senate and deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, via videoconferencing – deputies of regional, district and city councils of people’s deputies, as well as heads of executive authorities and economic management, representatives of non-state organizations and general public.

In his Address, the President of the country touched on the most pressing issues to date.

President Mirziyoyev noted that a democratic situation has formed in the country thanks to the elections held in 2019 under the slogan “New Uzbekistan – New Elections”.

He also emphasized that increasing the political activity of parties is and remains an urgent task. At the same time, it is necessary to further optimize the three-stage system of elections to local Councils, while increasing the role of district and city commissions.

“I want to appeal to all deputies and senators, and in their person to the whole people of Uzbekistan, democratic reforms are the only and the surest way for us”, the President said.
