The Oliy Majlis (Parliament) of Uzbekistan established a Commission to study the facts and events that took place in the Republic of Karakalpakstan in July 2022 and conduct an independent investigation on them

On 15 July a joint meeting of the Kengashes (Councils) of the Legislative Chamber and the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan was held in Tashkent.

According to the press service of the upper house of the Parliament, the appeal of the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman) on the issue of ensuring human rights and freedoms in the Republic of Karakalpakstan was considered at the joint meeting.

During the meeting, a joint resolution of the Kengashes of the chambers of the Oliy Majlis was adopted on the formation of a Commission to study the facts and events that occurred in the Republic of Karakalpakstan in July 2022 and conduct an independent investigation on them.

This resolution also approved its composition and charter of the Commission.

The Commission includes representatives of the Oliy Majlis and deputies, leaders and representatives of non-governmental and public organizations.

The leadership of the Commission is entrusted to the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman) Feruza Eshmatova.

The results of the investigation will be announced and published for the public of Uzbekistan and the world community.
