Ghani concerned over growing IS presence in Afghanistan

New Delhi, Sep 20 (IANS) Afghan President Ashraf Ghani expressed concern over the growing presence of Islamic State (IS) terrorists in Afghanistan at his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Wednesday.

According to official sources, Ghani said that a large number of foreign terrorists were involved in a horrific terror attack on Ghazni city in central Afghanistan last month that claimed over 100 lives.

Many of these foreign terrorists were IS members returning from Syria

The Afghan side said that there had been an increase in the number of IS terrorists in Afghanistan in the last few months.

It is learnt that Indian authorities are of the view that 70 per cent of those believed to be IS terrorists in Afghanistan are from Orakzai in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
