Tashkent Oct 15 At a press conference that took place at the Republican Press Center for the Coverage of Elections 2014, Chairman of the Central Election Commission M.Abdusalomov informed journalists about the efforts underway to set up electoral districts and form district electoral commissions for elections of deputies of the Legislative Chamber of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis and grant the political parties the right to take part in the forthcoming parliamentary elections.
It was noted during the event that 135 electoral districts have been established to date to administer elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and the list of those districts has been published in the press with the indication of their titles, order numbers, borders and the number of voters.
At its 9 October meeting, the Central Election Commission took a decision to set up district electoral commissions to conduct elections of deputies of the lower house of parliament.
It was stressed that a district electoral commission is established by the Central Election Commission and is composed of a chairperson, deputy chairperson, a secretary and no fewer than six other members. When approving the person-by-person composition of district election commissions, a special attention was paid to ensuring the inclusion of prominent representatives of the public in the commissions. The lists of members of district commissions with the indication of postal addresses and phone numbers of commissions are published in the press.
As the national and international journalists were informed, the workgroup that checked the correctness of signature sheets presented by political parties has concluded that the collection of voter signatures in support for political parties was carried out in full compliance with the requirements of electoral legislation. In this regard, the Central Election Commission adopted resolutions allowing the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businesspeople – the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, the Milliy Tiklanish Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, the People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan and the Adolat Social-Democratic Party of Uzbekistan to take part in the parliamentary elections.
Also, the decision of the Ecological Movement of Uzbekistan to participate in the election of deputies to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis was taken into consideration.
