A New Imagination to Be Envisioned Coupling Taiwan and India

India’s steady economy growth has greatly increased the need for higher education, yet the country’s existing universities are unable to meet the demand. Besides, universities around the globe, Taiwan especially, which has been suffering from declining birth rate , are in need of talented students, of which India has a great abundance. Hong Hocheng, President of NTHU, stressed that the time is right for strengthening bilateral ties between Taiwan and India.

Having foreseen thetremendous growth potentials of India, in 2011, NTHU accepted the commission from Ministry of Education, Taiwan, to establish Taiwan Education Center, which functions as a platform to deepen mutual understandingsfor Taiwanese and Indians and to grow bilateral cooperation. Currently 5 offices of TEC are operating in India: 4 in New Delhi and 1 in Chennai; and to date these 5 centers have provided Mandarin training and Chinese/Taiwanese cultural events to over 1,500 students to strengthen their ability for advanced education and expanded career in Taiwan. A bridge between India and Taiwan has been built and a broad road has been anticipated.

In addition to the Expo, Taiwan’s delegation comprised of the schools will also visit a number of leading research and academic institutions such as Jawaharlal Nehru University, IIT Delhi, O. P. Jindal Global University, and Amity University, obtaining insight into the current state of Education in India, as well as opportunities for future collaboration.
