New Delhi, May 1 The Sri Lankan envoy to India on Friday suggested that SAARC countries should look for sustainable tourism development by identifying world heritage sites within their geographical boundaries.

High Commissioner Sudharshan Seneviratne, in his valedictory address at the concluding session of a summit on “India: The Future Global Healthcare Hub” under aegis of PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry here, said: “Sri Lanka has been doing this and would want other SAARC countries to follow suit.”

Sustainable tourism development is one way to preserve the ecology of the SAARC countries and it would save them also from possible and predictable natural disasters, he pointed out.

“Nothing happens in vacuum to preserve the nature. Since the SAARC countries have shared culture and wisdom, we should draw from it so as not to fall prey to catastrophies and therefore, this area of cooperation ought to be explored with utmost priority,” he said, according to a PHDCCI press release.

PHDCCI’s Foreign Trade and Investment Committee chairman Sanjay Aggarwal presided over the session whereas the AYUSH Committee chairman Pradeep Multani moderated the session.
