Partnership is set to enhance the efficiency and reliability of Railway services in India
New Delhi, 30 October 2024: Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Railways, Information and Broadcasting, Electronics and Information Technology and Albert Roesti, Excellency Federal Counsilor and Head of Federal Department of the Environment, Transport and Communications of the Swiss Confederation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance technical cooperation between Indian Railways and Swiss Railways today.
The renewed MoU was signed formally through video-conferencing.
Albert Roesti in his address explained how Switzerland’s advanced Railway technology could prove advantageous for India.
In his address, Minister of Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted the advantages of the MoU for Indian Railways in various areas, including technology, track maintenance, management and construction, emphasising Indian government’s commitment to advancing Indian Railways.
A Joint Working Group (JWG) was formed to facilitate collaboration between representatives of Indian Railways and Swiss Railways. The JWG convened two meetings prior to signing the MoU to explore primary areas of discussion, viz.
- Freight and Passenger Cars
- Railway Electrification Equipment
- Railway Station Modernization
- Tunneling Technology
At the third JWG meeting that was chaired by the then Chairman and CEO of the Railway Board, alongside Director of the Federal Office of Transport in Switzerland, the Indian side presented ongoing capital expenditure initiatives, highlighting significant investment opportunities in the Indian Railway sector for Swiss firms.
This partnership is set to enhance the efficiency and reliability of Railway services in India, ultimately benefiting passengers and freight operations alike. Notable companies will supply machinery, materials and tunneling consultancy services.
Earlier, Mridul Kumar, Ambassador of India to Switzerland, presented Albert Roesti, with a shawl, symbolising the warmth of bilateral relations.

नई दिल्ली: भारत और स्विट्जरलैंड के बीच रेल क्षेत्र में तकनीकी सहयोग को बढ़ावा देने हेतु आपसी सहमति हुई है। वीडियो कॉन्फ्रेंसिंग के माध्यम से आयोजित कार्यक्रम में भारत के रेल मंत्री अश्विनी वैष्णव और स्विस रेल के प्रमुख अल्बर्ट रोएस्टि ने किया समझौता पत्र पर हस्ताक्षर किया ।
कार्यक्रम में सबसे पहले स्विट्ज़रलैंड में भारत के राजदूत मृदुल कुमार ने फेडरल काउंसलर और DETEC के प्रमुख अल्बर्ट रोएस्टि को एक शॉल भेंट कर स्वागत किया।
कार्यक्रम में अल्बर्ट रोएस्टि ने अपने संबोधन में भारत और स्विट्ज़रलैंड के बीच रेलवे के क्षेत्र में सहयोग के महत्व पर जोर दिया तथा इस बात को स्पष्ट किया कि स्विट्ज़रलैंड की उन्नत रेलवे तकनीक भारत में रेलवे के विकास में हर प्रकार से मददगार सिद्ध हो सकती हैं। भारत के रेल मंत्री अश्विनी वैष्णव ने कार्यक्रम में विचार साझा करते हुए कहा कि पूरे देश में सुरक्षित एवं तीव्र गति का रेल परिचालन भारत सरकार की प्राथमिकताओं में शामिल है। रेलवे के समग्र विकास के प्रति भारत सरकार की प्रतिबद्धता को स्पष्ट करते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि पिछले कुछ सालों में रेलवे के क्षेत्र में तकनीकी उन्नयन और संरक्षण हेतु अथक प्रयास किए गए हैं।उन्होंने कहा कि भारतीय रेल और स्विट्जरलैंड की रेल के बीच आपसी सहयोग हेतु समझौता पत्र हस्ताक्षर हो जाने से तकनीकी, पटरियों के रख-रखाव, प्रबंधन और निर्माण के क्षेत्र में दोनों देशों को लाभ होगा और एक दूसरे की विशेषताओं और विशेषज्ञाताओं से दोनों देश लाभान्वित होंगे। स्विट्जरलैंड के तकनीकी सहयोग से टर्न आउट और दूसरे तकनीकी मामलों में भारतीय रेल की दक्षता में और वृद्धि होगी।
समझौता पत्र के माध्यम से दोनों देशों के बीच ट्रैक्शन रोलिंग स्टॉक, ईएमयू और ट्रेन सेट,ट्रैक्शन प्रोपल्शन उपकरण,माल और यात्री गाड़ियां,टिल्टिंग ट्रेनें, रेलवे विद्युतीकरण उपकरण,ट्रेन शेड्यूलिंग और संचालन सुधार, रेलवे स्टेशन आधुनिकीकरण, मल्टीमॉडल परिवहन और टनलिंग तकनीक के मामले में एक दूसरे को सहयोग प्राप्त होगा।
कार्यक्रम के दौरान सहमति बनी कि भारत और स्विट्ज़रलैंड के बीच रेल क्षेत्र में तकनीकी सहयोग को अधिक मजबूती प्रदान की जाए। यह समझौता पत्र रेलवे प्रणाली में नवीनतम तकनीकों के समावेश के लिए एक मजबूत आधार प्रदान करेगा।
यह समझौता दोनों देशों के बीच हस्ताक्षरित पहले समझौते की निरंतरता है, जो रेल क्षेत्र में दोनों देशों के बीच तकनीकी विकास और नवाचार के लिए किया गया था। आज के इस समारोह के माध्यम से, दोनों देशों ने अपने मजबूत सहयोग को आगे बढ़ाने का संकल्प लिया।
साथ ही यह कार्यक्रम भारत और स्विट्जरलैंड के बीच संबंधों को और मजबूत करने की दिशा में एक महत्वपूर्ण कदम है। इस प्रकार के सहयोग से दोनों देशों के बीच व्यापार, निवेश और सांस्कृतिक आदान-प्रदान को बढ़ावा मिलेगा। यह न केवल दो राष्ट्रों के लिए फायदेमंद होगा, बल्कि वैश्विक स्तर पर रेलवे को एक नई दिशा भी प्रदान करेगा।
