MEXICAN DELEGATION DISCUSSES TOBACCO CONTROL AT DELHI INTERNATIONAL COP MEET

The 7th Conference of the Parties (COP7) for WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) is currently ongoing at Greater Noida.

 The Conference is discussing topics such as the regulation of contents in tobacco products, control and prevention policies of new products like vape pens and e-cigarettes, and the advertisement of tobacco products. It will also examine the relation between the Framework Convention and the commitments on non-transmissible diseases of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The Mexican delegation is headed by H.E. Ambassador Melba Pría and comprised by senior officers of the Ministries of External Affairs, Agriculture and Health.

It will highlight the importance of strengthening tobacco control policies with a focus on public health, placing people at the centre of the debate.

The WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control is the first international treaty in the field of health to be negotiated within the World Health Organization. It came into force in 2005 and currently has 180 members.
