Lok Sabha Camp Office, Nairobi (Kenya) 17 January 2023: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, who is leading an Indian Parliamentary Delegation (IPD) to Kenya and Tanzania, called on the Hon’ble President of Kenya H.E. Dr. William Samoei Ruto, at the Kenyan State House, today.
Speaking on the occasion, Birla extended best wishes on behalf of the IPD and the Parliament of India to H.E. Dr. William Samoei Ruto, on his election as the President of the Republic of Kenya. Birla expressed hope that under the leadership of Hon’ble Ruto India-Kenya bilateral relations will reach new heights of cooperation and prosperity and will also expand to new avenues like innovation, ICT and health. Birla noted that India is ready to share its expertise and experience with Kenya in areas such as ICT, health, education etc. Emphasizing on the shared challenges being faced by both the countries, Birla observed that India and Kenya have been victims of terrorism and that the two nations are fighting a common fight against terrorism. Global terror is the biggest challenge facing the world, stressed Birla.
Speaking about India’s rapid economic growth and its emergence as the world’s fifth largest economy, Birla underlined that India is one of Kenya’s most important economic and trade partners. He expressed the desire for exploring new areas of economic cooperation, between the two countries besides traditional sectors like agriculture and mining, in order to further enhance trade and investment between India and Kenya. Birla added that in this direction, there must be regular exchange of business delegations between the two countries. Birla added that both India and Kenya believe in democratic governance.
Birla emphasized that innovation and research is the currency of the information age and is therefore it is important to collaborate with likeminded nations facing similar challenges. Birla noted that Indian youth are at the forefront of solving some of the most complex challenges facing the world. Speaking about enhanced cooperation between the maritime neighbors, Birla expressed joy at the fact that India is an important destination for health care and education for the Kenyan people. He added that a large number of Indians also visit Kenya as tourists. Mentioning about climate change, Birla appreciated H.E. Ruto’s commitment to tackling the climate crisis, which he called a shared priority of both countries. Birla added that The International Solar Alliance (ISA) is an important global alliance which is the initiative of India in the direction of climate change mitigation and hoped that Kenya would become a member of this organization soon.
LOK SABHA SPEAKER MEETS SPEAKER OF THE SENATE OF KENYA
Birla also met the Speaker of the Senate, Rt. Hon’ble Mr. Amason Jeffah Kingi. The dignitaries, among other issues, discussed about further strengthening parliamentary cooperation, formation of friendship groups and capacity building of Members. Speaking on the occasion, Birla said that India and Kenya have enjoyed close and friendly relations for centuries. He added that since ancient times, the maritime neighbours have traded through the Swahili coast on the Indian Ocean. Birla said that the two countries enjoy strong relations based on people-to-people ties, trade, development partnership and capacity building. He added that the ties between India and Kenya have grown stronger over time due to extensive economic cooperation; development related partnership and shared goals of maintaining peace and security while combating terrorism. Birla added that Indian democratic institutions represent an ideal example of inclusive development to the world. Birla expressed hope for parliamentary relations between India and Kenya to improve further in the direction of enhanced cooperation and interaction.
ADDRESSES STUDENTS OF UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI
Later Birla visited the University of Nairoi and addressed the students there. Addressing the students, Birla said that the youth have new thinking, energy, resolve to innovate, to do something new. In the today’s aspiring India, the youth have an important role to play. Today India has become the fifth largest economy in the world because of the enabling policy of the government and the efforts of the youth. Sharing India’s growth story, Birla noted that in the recent years, a lot of transformation has taken place in the fields of education, health, technology, economy and consequently society has also transformed. He mentioned about the Skill India and Start UP India initiatives of the Government and how these schemes are bringing positive changes in the lives of youth.
Birla also paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at his statue in Nairobi.
Birla also interacted with Kenyan Alumni and the media during his visit.
लोक सभा कैंप कार्यालय, नैरोबी (केन्या) 17 जनवरी 2023: केन्या और तंजानिया में भारतीय संसदीय प्रतिनिधिमंडल (आईपीडी) का नेतृत्व कर रहे लोक सभा अध्यक्ष, श्री ओम बिरला ने आज केन्याई स्टेट हाउस में केन्या के माननीय राष्ट्रपति, महामहिम डॉ. विलियम सामोई रूटो से मुलाक़ात की ।
इस अवसर पर श्री बिरला ने भारतीय संसदीय प्रतिनिधिमंडल और भारत की संसद की ओर से महामहिम डॉ. विलियम सामोई रुतो को केन्या गणराज्य के राष्ट्रपति के पद पर निर्वाचित होने पर बधाई दी । श्री बिरला ने आशा व्यक्त की कि माननीय रुटो के नेतृत्व में भारत-केन्या द्विपक्षीय संबंध सहयोग और समृद्धि की नई ऊंचाइयों को छुएंगे तथा नवाचार, आईसीटी और स्वास्थ्य जैसे नए क्षेत्रों में भी दोनों देशों के संबंधों का विस्तार होगा । श्री बिरला ने कहा कि भारत आईसीटी, स्वास्थ्य, शिक्षा आदि जैसे क्षेत्रों में केन्या के साथ अपनी विशेषज्ञता और अनुभव साझा करने के लिए तैयार है। दोनों देशों के समक्ष उपस्थित साझा चुनौतियों के बारे में बोलते हुए श्री बिरला ने कहा कि भारत और केन्या आतंकवाद से पीड़ित रहे हैं और दोनों देश आतंकवाद के खिलाफ एक साझी लड़ाई लड़ रहे हैं। श्री बिरला ने इस बात पर जोर दिया कि वैश्विक आतंकवाद दुनिया के लिए सबसे बड़ी चुनौती है ।
भारत के तीव्र आर्थिक विकास और दुनिया की पांचवीं सबसे बड़ी अर्थव्यवस्था के रूप में उभरने के संदर्भ में श्री बिरला ने इस बात पर ज़ोर दिया कि भारत केन्या के सबसे महत्वपूर्ण आर्थिक और व्यापारिक साझीदारों में से एक है। उन्होंने भारत और केन्या के बीच व्यापार और निवेश को और बढ़ाने के लिए कृषि और खनन जैसे पारंपरिक क्षेत्रों के अलावा दोनों देशों के बीच आर्थिक सहयोग के नए क्षेत्रों का पता लगाए जाने की इच्छा व्यक्त की। श्री बिरला ने कहा कि इस दिशा में दोनों देशों के बीच व्यापारिक प्रतिनिधिमंडलों का नियमित आदान-प्रदान होना चाहिए। श्री बिरला ने यह भी कहा कि भारत और केन्या दोनों लोकतांत्रिक शासन में विश्वास करते हैं।
श्री बिरला ने इस बात पर जोर दिया कि आधुनिक सूचना-प्रधान युग में नवाचार और अनुसंधान महत्वपूर्ण है और इसलिए समान चुनौतियों का सामना कर रहे समान विचारधारा वाले देशों के बीच सहयोग और भी महत्वपूर्ण हो जाता है। श्री बिरला ने कहा कि भारतीय युवा दुनिया के समक्ष उपस्थित जटिल चुनौतियों का समाधान करने में अग्रणी भूमिका निभा रहे हैं। समुद्री पड़ोसियों के बीच सहयोग बढ़ाने के बारे में बोलते हुए, श्री बिरला ने इस बात पर प्रसन्नता व्यक्त की कि भारत केन्या के लोगों के लिए स्वास्थ्य देखभाल और शिक्षा का महत्वपूर्ण डेस्टिनेशन है । उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि बड़ी संख्या में भारतीय पर्यटन के लिए केन्या जाते हैं। जलवायु परिवर्तन के मुद्दे का उल्लेख करते हुए श्री बिरला ने जलवायु संकट से निपटने के लिए महामहिम रूटो की प्रतिबद्धता की सराहना की और इसे दोनों देशों की साझा प्राथमिकता बताया। श्री बिरला ने यह भी कहा कि अंतर्राष्ट्रीय सौर गठबंधन (आईएसए) एक महत्वपूर्ण वैश्विक गठबंधन है जो जलवायु परिवर्तन की समस्या के समाधान की दिशा में भारत की पहल है और यह आशा व्यक्त की कि केन्या जल्द ही इस संगठन का सदस्य बन जाएगा।
लोक सभा अध्यक्ष की केन्या की सीनेट के अध्यक्ष से मुलाकात
श्री बिरला ने सीनेट के स्पीकर, माननीय श्री अमासन जेफा किंगी से भी मुलाकात की। इस भेंट के दौरान अन्य मुद्दों के साथ-साथ संसदीय सहयोग को और मजबूत करने, मैत्री ग्रुपों के गठन और सदस्यों की क्षमता निर्माण के बारे में चर्चा हुई । इस अवसर पर बोलते हुए, श्री बिरला ने कहा कि भारत और केन्या के बीच सदियों से घनिष्ठ और मैत्रीपूर्ण संबंध रहे हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि प्राचीन काल से, समुद्री पड़ोसियों ने हिंद महासागर के स्वाहिली तट के माध्यम से व्यापार किया है। श्री बिरला ने कहा कि दोनों देशों के लोगों के बीच व्यापार, विकास में साझेदारी और क्षमता निर्माण पर आधारित मजबूत संबंध रहे हैं। उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि समय के साथ व्यापक आर्थिक सहयोग; विकास में साझेदारी और आतंकवाद का मुकाबला करते हुए शांति और सुरक्षा बनाए रखने के साझे लक्ष्य के कारण भारत और केन्या के बीच संबंध और मजबूत हुए हैं;। श्री बिरला ने कहा कि भारतीय लोकतांत्रिक संस्थाएं दुनिया के सामने समावेशी विकास का एक आदर्श उदाहरण रख रही हैं। श्री बिरला ने आशा व्यक्त की कि भारत और केन्या के बीच अधिकाधिक संसदीय संबंधों में सहयोग और संवाद बढ़ेगा।
माननीय अध्यक्ष ने नैरोबी विश्वविद्यालय के छात्रों को संबोधित किया
बाद में श्री बिरला ने नैरोबी विश्वविद्यालय में छात्रों को संबोधित किया। इस अवसर पर श्री बिरला ने कहा कि युवाओं में नई सोच है, ऊर्जा है, कुछ नया करने का संकल्प है। आज के महत्वाकांक्षी भारत में युवाओं को महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभानी है। सरकार की समर्थकारी नीतियों और युवाओं के प्रयासों से आज भारत दुनिया की पांचवीं सबसे बड़ी अर्थव्यवस्था बन गया है। भारत की विकास गाथा की बात करते हुए, श्री बिरला ने कहा कि हाल के वर्षों में शिक्षा, स्वास्थ्य, प्रौद्योगिकी, अर्थव्यवस्था के क्षेत्रों में काफी बदलाव आया है और इसके परिणामस्वरूप समाज में भी परिवर्तन आए हैं । उन्होंने स्किल इंडिया और स्टार्ट अप इंडिया की सरकार की पहल का उल्लेख किया और बताया कि कैसे ये योजनाएं युवाओं के जीवन में सकारात्मक बदलाव ला रही हैं।
श्री बिरला ने नैरोबी में महात्मा गांधी की प्रतिमा पर श्रद्धासुमन अर्पित किए ।
