French Middle East Peace Envoy in Egypt for Talks

egypt-frenchenvoyThe Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received France’s special envoy for the Middle East peace initiative Pierre Vimont. Both officials discussed the results of the Paris meeting as well as future steps to prepare for a proposed international peace conference to take place before the end of this year.

Shoukry explained Egypt’s vision to encourage both Israel and the Palestinians to resume peace talks and emphasized that a Two State Solution is the only viable way to resolve the conflict. Vimont explained the efforts exerted by France to ensure positive involvement of allstakeholders in order to come up with ideas that would advance the resumption of negotiations between both parties. He met also with the chairman of the Arab Affairs Committee in the Egyptian Parliament who supported the French initiative’s proposal to set two years as the timeline to reach a final solution to the Palestinian issue and proposed the possibility of dividing the period into four stages where each stage will have its own goals that must be achieved to overcome Israel’s stalling.
