Cuban Vice President to Visit India March 23

New Delhi, March 20: The First Vice President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, will be paying a two day visit to India from March 23 to reciprocate his counterpart’s visit to the country two years ago and also to further the political and economic ties with India.

India’s Vice President Hamid Ansari had made an official visit to Cuba in 2013, the same year Bermudez was inducted as the first vice president of Cuba. He will call on the President Pranab Kumar Mukherjee and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and have discussions on a host of bilateral issues, Syed Akbaruddin, spokesman for the Ministry of External Affairs told newsmen today.

India and Cuba have enjoyed cordial political and diplomatic relations for a number of years and have cooperated with each other in the area of human resource development. It is worth mentioning that the Indian boxing team, volleyball team and the atheletic teams that participate in international meets have all engaged coaches from Cuba.

India and Cuba are now looking for cooperation in the fields of bio technology and health care as India is fairly advanced in these fields and has the ability to offer assistance and guidance.
