External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar to Kuwait from June 09-11

New Delhi, June 08 External Affair Minister Dr. Jaishankar will have a official visit  Kuwait from Wednesday, June 09 to June 11 at the invitation of H.E. Sheikh (Dr.) Ahmed Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah, Foreign Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, State of Kuwait

This comes in the course of continuous efforts between the officials of the two friendly countries to strengthen the already strong and solid bilateral relations and push them towards better levels.

During the visit he will hold high level meetings and also address the Indian community in Kuwait. He will also carry a personal letter from Prime Minister of India to the Amir of Kuwait.

The year 2021-22 marks the 60th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Kuwait. Traditionally warm and close bilateral relationship between India and Kuwait is characterized by strong people-to-people connect. There are around one million Indians residing in Kuwait. India is amongst the largest trading partners of Kuwait and Kuwait is a major supplier of oil for India.

This visit comes after the visit of Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs of the State of Kuwait to the Republic of India in mid-March, during which he announced the establishment of a Joint Commission, chaired by the two ministers, under which a number of Joint Working Groups would be established to enhance the cooperation in various fields such as trade, economic, investment, culture, petrochemicals and others.

The two ministers exchanged a number of phone calls within a short period of time since the second wave of the Corona virus broke out in India, where the Kuwaiti minister reiterated his country’s commitment to stand with India in these difficult times and provide relief materials, especially oxygen, to ease the suffering of the friendly Indian people, as the External Affair Minister of India, Dr. Jaishankar expressed his country’s thanks and appreciation for the support extended by the State of Kuwait by providing the relief materials and Oxygen through Ships that is still continue.

The air and sea bridge are continuing, in which the Indian Navy ships depart from Kuwait ports loaded with large oxygen tanks to transport them to Indian ports, and the Indian Air aircraft then transport the huge ISO tanks to Kuwait for refilling them.
