Representative of Uzbekistan approved as the SCO Secretary General

Director of the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies under the President of Uzbekistan, Vladimir Norov, was approved as new Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization for the period from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2021.

The decision was made at the SCO summit in Qingdao, China on Sunday.

Vladimir Norov worked in different years as Deputy, First Deputy and Minister of Foreign Affairs, State Adviser to the President, Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Belgium and held other positions.

From January 1, 2016 until the end of 2018, the Secretary General of the SCO is Rashid Alimov (Tajikistan).

Representative of Tajikistan Jumakhon Giyosov was appointed as new director of the Executive Committee of the SCO Regional Antiterrorist Structure.

Following the summit, it was adopted the Qingdao Declaration and were signed a number of documents. One of the important events of the summit was the adoption, at the proposal of the President of Uzbekistan, of a Joint Appeal by the Heads of State of the SCO to Youth.

The SCO chairmanship moved from China to Kyrgyzstan.
