New Delhi, February 27, 2020: Close on the heels of US President Donald Trump’s visit to India, a high-level delegation from Canada’s Calgary, a province in Alberta, is arriving in India on March 1 for business and partnership exploration mission. The aim of the Mission is to promote Calgary as the city of choice for investment, and attract tech-talent in niche areas as well as position Alberta as a preferred partner for Indian businesses in sectors where it has an edge.

The Mission is being led by Naheed Kurban Nenshi, the 36th mayor of Calgary, Alberta, that will engage with industry, agencies, government, and influencers through a series of roundtables, high-level meetings and social summits in Delhi, Bangalore, and Mumbai between March 1st and 7th 2020. The Mission is being hosted by the Confederation of Indian Industry in India.

Calgary is the largest city in the Alberta province of Canada and ranked as the most liveable city in North America and the top five cities globally.

A CII spokesperson said, “India, with one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, a vibrant creative industry, an unparalleled pool of skilled talent, a hi-tech services base and a maturing ‘startups’ ecosystem is a natural choice for a partnership for Calgary.”

“The city of Calgary is on its path to emerge as ‘the city of choice in Canada for the world’s best entrepreneurs’, via embracing innovation, and creating solutions to meet the world’s most fundamental needs in food, health, energy, and transportation,” he added.

The Calgary Mayor will be accompanied by Councillor George Chahal, Luke Azevedo; Commissioner Film, Television & Creative Industries, Calgary Economic Development; Nancy Knowlton, Chief of Staff, Calgary Economic Development and Patrick Mattern, Vice President, Calgary Economic Development, Franca Gualtieri; Officer Manager, Mayor’s office; Dr Tim Rahilly, President & Vice Chancellor, Mount Royal University; Isha Sehgal, Admission Advisor (South Asia Region), Bow Valley College, among others from Alberta Canada.

The purpose of the mission is to gain a deeper understanding of the opportunities in India and take advantage of multiple networking and partnership development opportunities. The mission will guide a longer-term strategy to build partnerships in India that provide critical linkages to advance business and investment attraction, accelerate talent development, and grow educational links between Southern Alberta and India.
